We took the opportunity to invite a few friends and family of the studio to celebrate our first summer in the Yard.

It’s a diverse mix of artists, entrepreneurs and creatives, all housed in converted old schoolhouse buildings (ours is the old dining hall) along with a few shipping container conversions around the edges.

First planned for May, torrential rain posponed the open evening until July. The weather gods shone, crowds arrived in their hundreds (although thankfully down on the 1,500 supposedly coming if the Facebook page was true). We didn’t really know what to expect, but in the end almost all of our neighbours opened their doors. It was a chance to really get to know some of them ourselves, too – the regular working day doesn’t leave much space for mingling.

We set up some impromptu typographic ping pong

The Sans and Serif pub opened its doors again

The other side of the yard hosted bands and a Carribean food stall

Sew It With Love offered sewing classes

Our friends at Mentsen opened their very stylish doors

Thanks to Christopher L Proctor for some of the images

It was a great night all round. Same again next year!
